TYPOGRAPHY & #NEW APP LOVE

So i’ve discovered two new apps which are compatible with Instagram, AKA my most resourceful and favorite platform to use.

I’m slightly addicted.

One is called PicLab and it makes your pictures look more professional by providing framed shapes and light effect and lush typography. My fave type is AMATIC.

So after you have fiddled with these fun filters and framing assets and so on and so forth,  you can save it in your gallery and upload straight to your Instagram / Twitter / Facebook.  It also does it directly – but I  like to write my own tags so I save it to my gallery.

Another app I love is called FontCandy. It takes your pictures and masks over them with beautiful fonts in different colours. You can play with scale and ratios – its an ammeter photographers dream.

I have found that in our world so overloaded with social media and the need to market ourselves in the ‘right’ and ‘design led’ way, these two apps have definitely improved the professional appearance of my Instagram whilst making me addicted in the process.

Here are some #visualsbabes

I have included some hand drawn lettering too.

FASHION BABES | SS15

Hey everyone.

Super sorry for lack of blogging. Life gets in the way yada yada. Plus I’ve felt a bit lost.

For example, Am I really good enough to be a Print designer? On the other hand, do I want to be a Graphic Designer? Are the two ultimately so intrinsic that I can focus on both without appearing not to have specialised!?

And then I drive myself a bit mental over thinking, re thinking. Again. and Again. And then I go to my day job, dreaming. But its good to dream. And then I kindly remind myself to just do what I love with the help of Rachel Taylor and her inspirational online modules. I’m currently on module 3 and LOVING IT YES SIR I AM.

And then I find this competition again. Its by Ohhdear – you may remember my cushions.  And with OHDEER you can be a mesh of designers in one and showcase your prints for people to buy. And that suits me.

AND it just so happens I have a VERY RELEVANT SS15 collection up my sleeve which is READY to showcase and is available for purchase.

Reasons to buy;

Firstly do you ever need a reason to buy a trend led, well researched, SS15 KEY wardrobe piece? I think not.

If you buy it now, not only will you be UBER ahead of yourself in terms of FASHION BABES as these key pieces will carry you through from SS14 – 15 – but that these trend led pieces you will be wearing, ACTUALLY MEAN SOMETHING .

MY BALL is LIVE  and ready to purchase in a variety of colours and silhouettes

Screen Shot 2014-03-25 at 21.57.19

MY BALL is a romantic and poetic focus on the beautiful landscape and how our digital age offers a celebration of fresh new scenes and new perspectives. Often in our over informed and overly communicated world, we don’t take a step back to focus, contemplate or reevaluate anything. This design offers a reminder of the importance to ‘focus’.

HE WHO GOES  is LIVE and ready to purchase in a variety of colours and silhouettes

HE WHO GOES is a romantic and nostalgic focus on our beautiful landscape. By celebrating the ‘digital’ through localised scenic views, this design offers a new, relevant, and poetic perspective to our familiar landscape. He Who Goes offers the idea of wearing localised scenic comfort in our ever growing multifaceted and information overloaded age.

PATSY is LIVE and ready to purchase in a variety of colours and silhouettes

PASTY is a romantic and digitalised focus on the floral print. By celebrating the subject matter of nature through a high definition lens, this print celebrates a beautiful fresh newness with a relevant SS15 colour palette.

So there you have it. #ontothewebwegotopurchase

TELL ME YOU NEED A CUSHION?

So the last few weeks have been very interesting for me (I do apologise for being so absent)!

I’ve entered two design competitions just to test the waters… get used to setting up artwork to spec and to actually see how well my creations are being received. It’s daunting because the stuff out there is REALLY good. And I mean REALLY.

There is no way on earth I will win any of them but I have bloody loved every second of designing them. The buzz you get when your work is mocked up is insane. The feedback I have received to date has been rather positive! People have ACTUALLY bought my cushions!

Friends sharing the competition on their Facebook walls has been so delightful, as has receiving some lovely emails congratulating me for taking the plunge…

Below are the 3 I have entered for the Homebase and Ohh Deer.

I would love to have your feedback. Or perhaps you would even like to buy one? Be the proud owner of one? They do make for a great stocking filler!! For a limited time only… November 6th!

BUY / SPEND /SPLURGE. Then maybe, just maybe, I will become one step close to becoming a Surface Pattern Designer AKA  dream job.

Table of Floral Dreams – Happy Friday

At the moment my table is covered with dreamy flowers…. This is the first time I have ever received such a table of dreams!  Lets make the most of the remaining of summer.com Happy Friday! x

The Smokehouse -N1

Last night I tried a new North London restaurant / pub called The Smokehouse – you may remember it as The House, which it has replaced. WOW.

It’s situated in Canonbury in and amongst some nice residential streets, between Essex Road and Highbury Corner.

I got rather wet on the walk from the station, but as soon as I got there my mood was lifted by the twinkly lights in the bushes outside that greet you, and the warm and vibrant atmosphere inside. I ordered a glass of white and sat on the red ox tail chesterfield chairs underneath some antlers.

It felt officially Christmas-y for this time of year – but to be fair, and I hate to admit it, summer is practically over!

As soon as my husband got there we were seated in the restaurant and shared the Crab on Toast (recommended by my friend Louise) which was absolutely delicious and the chopped Brisket Roll, a delicious ball which literally oozed with naughty goodness. The Brisket was definitely the star ‘piece’…

For main I had the Monkfish with Heritage Tomatoes and my hubby had the Short Rib Bourguignon. Divine. The food was really creative … Interestingly the pub is one of 4 pubs in London, The Pig and Butcher –  on Liverpool road, another local fave is part of the 4!

The sides are worth considering too. If we had any more room we would have gone for the Friday Pie – the waiter was very enthusiastic about this – but it wasn’t Friday and we were full. I’ve taken a mental note for next time though – and to take more pictures!

One of the most beautiful features which I didn’t capture was the garden outside with the fairy lights – I can only imagine the atmosphere out here in the summer.

Colourful House

I walk past this charming little house every day on my backstreet route to work and I adore the colours. So I thought i’d share the love.  Its nice to see a bit of ‘nice’ in our ‘dirty’ LANDAN TAN …

Stoke Newington Wedding Bash

This Saturday marked a very special day – watching one of my best friends tie the knot! The wedding took place in Stoke Newington right by Clissold Park, which is a park that holds a special place in my heart (I have spent many a weekend morning running around it with my husband come rain or shine). What was so undeniably special about this wedding was the local and celebratory feel it had towards this area of North London… From sipping prosecco in the park post-ceremony, to strolling (rather merrily) through London backstreets in our frocks and ties, to eating and partying hard at local residential pub The Londesborough.

The impeccable style of the day is testament to the creative couple (the previously mentioned Helen and Robin). The muted color pallets of the market bought flowers, mint green Aliana bridesmaid dresses from Ted Baker, and hand-made pom poms all helped form the visual feast we were lucky enough to see. From the subtle groups of colour to the charming glass bottle displays, from the scrabble letters for table names to the graffiti on pavements, this wedding was full of style and elegance – so effortless. It made me want to get married all over again and has inspired a colour palette for some new prints. Watch. This. Space.

Did somebody say Retro Print?

Newly created retro print. Inspired by; ‘get outta tan’ ‘stripes and our good friends, ‘circular objects.’, With an emphasis on colour, this retro print, in three colour ways is my latest portfolio piece… simples.

Final week 1 circles and stripes

English Rose Garden Print – A New Addition

So today I created another addition to my English Rose range.  I’ve enjoyed playing around with colour and scale. I’ve tried hard not to mask any of the brush strokes with my ‘playing’ in the hope that the impasto quality still comes through. Like the ethos of our design friends Etro, I want to give the illusion that if wearing this print, you would be wearing ‘art’ – something unclassified, intelligent and beautiful.
